Meet the Founder

I am Vassiliy Kolganov, a Bulgarian attorney and the founder of Your Private Advocate. My professional journey has taken me from legal practice in Varna to working alongside U.S. attorneys in New York and, since 2011, Las Vegas.

After studying English in New York, I completed paralegal training at Ashworth College and pursued further studies in international law. I worked with Molander & Associates and William Schierberl, Esq., while continuing to represent clients in Bulgaria, particularly Bulgarians living in the United States. My work has included successful restitution and compensation cases and collaboration with attorneys in Sofia, Varna, and Veliko Tarnovo.

I created Your Private Advocate to bring together independent professionals and complementary services, helping clients navigate matters involving Bulgaria, the United States, or both.

How I Help

Working with attorneys in Bulgaria and the United States has taught me that clear communication and careful execution of practical tasks are essential to moving a client’s matter forward. I help clients understand their attorney’s instructions, clarify what documents and actions are needed, and communicate questions back to the attorney. By bridging language and procedural differences, I help turn instructions into clear, practical next steps.

I also communicate with government agencies in both countries, including making telephone inquiries on a client’s behalf when authorized. Knowing whom to contact, what to ask, and how to explain the issue can be essential to clarifying requirements. When a matter requires additional expertise, I connect clients with the appropriate independent professionals and coordinate their work in the client’s interests.

When Hours Matter

A client in Bulgaria contacted me after an appeal deadline appeared to have been missed. I immediately reviewed the circumstances and identified a solution involving the time difference and the rules governing dispatch by post. Working from my Las Vegas office, I prepared and dispatched the necessary documents to the Bulgarian court without delay. The court accepted the appeal as timely filed, and the client ultimately won the case on appeal. This case illustrates the value of timely action, practical procedural knowledge, and coordination across borders—principles at the heart of Your Private Advocate.

Community & Cultural Engagement

Alongside my professional work, I have actively supported Bulgarian community and cultural initiatives in the United States.

I regularly attended its annual events, connected with civic leaders, and advocated for Bulgarian interests. I also helped advance the establishment of a Bulgarian community organization formally recognized at the state level. I contributed articles to the Russian-language newspaper Russkiy Kurier and the Bulgarian newspaper SEGA, and chaired Bulgarian election commissions in New York between 2004 and 2009.
